Phalaenopsis zebrina is not synonym to Phalaenopsis sumatrana. This all topic and clearly explanation can be read at Phalaenopsis a Monograph by Eric A. Christenson 171 : 2001. J. B. Comber also already split this species in book Orchid of Sumatra 859 : 2001.

This type illustration made by Witte from specimen sent to Botanic Garden at University of Leiden by Teijsmann, collected from Palembang province, collected by Gersen in year 1859 along with P. violacea. Teijsmann sent plants, only one of which survived the journey, to the Botanic Garden at the University of Leiden under name of P. zebrina, where it flowered for the first time in europe in 1860, the copy of publication attached. In this publication Witte made the colour illustration, but a bit look different with Teijsman`s original watercolor of P. Zebrina.

This type publish in Natuurk. Tijdschr. Ned.-Indië 24 : 319 (1862). The basionym made by Teijsmann from specimen collected by Gersen from Muara enim, Palembang province.
