Near Bulbophyllum mutabile (Blume) Lindl., 1830, but larger, with much broader leaves, larger flowers, a very conspicuous callus on the collumn foot, thus recalling of Bulbophyllum ceratostyloides Schltr. from Celebes, and column ending in a quinquangular lobe retusa at the tip.

Basionym collected from Mt. Kerinci, Jambi, epiphytical in forest at 1500 m on 22 March 1920. "flowers light orange", 19 March 1920 at 1600 m, "flowers orange".
Our specimen collected by Leicneagra from Bengkulu highland at c. 1200 m and flowering in cultivation on 07 November 2011.
