Stem
6-15 cm long, often curved, bearing leaves close together in two rows.
Leaves
linear, thick and fleshy, V-shaped in cross section, 8 -12 cm long by 1.5 - 2 cm broad.
Inflorescences
not branched, baering many flowers close together.
Flowers
about 1.2 cm long, yellow to orange-red. Sepals narrowly ovate, obtuse, 8 mm long, the dorsal 2.7 mm broad, the lateral 3.3 mm broad; petals the same but narrowly basally; lip trilobed and spurred, the side lobes small and triangular, pressing against the column, mid-lobe strap-shaped, obtuse, curved downwards, with two ribs near the base, spur club-shaped, about 8 mm long, flattened near the base; column very short and thick.
Distribution in Sumatra
Kaban Jahe - Kota Cane at the northern end of North Sumatra, growing on isolated trees in grassland. (J. B. Comber 830, 2001). Our specimen is new distribution found from Pagar Alam regency, South Sumatra.
Note :
For some reason this species had not been recorded previously from Sumatra, but see the photograph. Ridley called this yellow form var. citrinum in 1911.
