Eurycaulis kruiensis (J.J.Sm.) M.A.Clem., 2003

Krui is a name place near Liwa. Liwa is small place where the first specimen was collected. Krui now part of Bengkulu province. Dendrobium kruiense named by J. J. Smith refer to this place where the specimen orchid was found. Actually the specimen collected from Liwa near Krui, not from Krui.

J. J. Smith though that it was related to Dendrobium croceocentrum. When I try to determine the ID, I think this is Dendrobium croceocentrum too, but after cutting the sepals, petals and labellum, examination with draw line made by J. J. Smith, this specimen not matching with Dendrobium croceocentrum. I found the specimen matching with Dendrobium kruiense draw line, very surprise !.

Flos c. 3.5 cm dorsal sepal slightly suffused with purple

Petals spreading , obliquely rhomboid,  very obtuse with slightly erose margin

Labellum, dorsal view, c. 2 cm long

Labellum form, very different with labellum D. croceocentrum

Gynostemium antice visum

Folia c. 1 cm lata

Folia c. 7 cm longa very acute

Note :

Specimen ini ukuran bunganya lumayan besar 3.5 cm. Menurut basionym (descripsi asli) bunganya c. 2.5 cm lebarnya. J. J. Smith tak bsia mendescripsikan bentuk daunnya karena specimen yang dikirim ke dia dalam keadaan tak berdaun. Mudah mudahan photo daun di blog ini bisa menjadi acuan buat determinasi. Semoga :).
