This varian of Dendrobium sanguinolentum superbum introduce by Benjamin Samuel Williams, Henry Williams in book "The Orchid-Grower's Manual, containing descriptions of the best species and varieties of Orchidaceous plants" page 360 published at year 1885.

Dendrobium sanguinolentum superbum hort.-
This plant is a great improvement on the type, handsome as that is. The variety is much stronger in growth, producing longer spikes of very much larger flowers, wich are of a creamy-white tipped with dark rich purple. This variety was sent to us a few years ago with a consignment of Phalaenopsis - Borneo.

Examination specimen
Dendrobium sanguinolentum sumatranum superbum var. cerinum
Dendrobium sanguinolentum with absent purple colour on tipped sepals and petals known as Dendrobium sanguinolentum var. cerinum. An endemic subspecies Dendrobium sanguinolentum sumatranum introduce by J. J. Smith in year 1919, wich lip have purple strip disticntly. A variety Dendrobium superbum introduce by B. S. William in year 1885 for variety with have larger flower.
Our specimens come from Gayo Lues regency, Aceh province, Northen Sumatra. It is collected epiphyt in Rubber plantation (Rubber tree) at c. 1600 m above sea level. Its have larger flowers with size 3.4 broad and have short flowers by 1.8 cm long. Commonly Dendrobium sanguinolentum have size c. 2.4 cm broad. This specimens have leaves c.4 - 8.7 cm long by c. 1 - 2.2 cm broad more shorter than commonly leave c. 18 cm long by 2 cm broad.
The colour golden yellow in other hand commonly colour of Dendrobium sanguinolentum is mostly yellow ochre or buff.
